2024 was a year of change for the insurance industry – a new government was elected, new legislation came into effect (such as Consumer Duty) and innovative technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) were increasingly adopted and integrated into business operations.

At Starpeak, we are proud to have driven success in the face of our shifting sector. Over the past year, we embraced change and delivered outstanding experiences to our customers who, as always, remained at the core of our business. There were many notable milestones: award wins, rebrands, partnerships, company growth, new products and new additions to the team. So, as we kick off 2025, we wanted to take some time to reflect on our proudest moments from the past 12 months.

We got bigger (and better!)

We are thrilled to announce that 2024 was another strong year, as we achieved 25% growth in Gross Written Premiums compared to 2023 putting us a year ahead of our 5 year growth plan. What’s more, our total number of policy holders also grew by a quarter, and we now proudly meet the insurance needs of 140,000 customers. This year, we plan to continue our upward trajectory, targeting a further 20% growth by the end of 2025.

As business grew, so did our team. We started 2024 with 27 employees which grew to 29 by the end of the year. It’s been fantastic to have new faces in the office, each bringing fresh skills and ideas that will contribute to the continued success of the business. This year, we are also recruiting for several more positions, ranging from developers all the way to sales.

We delivered award-winning insurance, over and over again

In 2024, we won not one, not two, but three awards. In H1, we were announced Gold winners at the SME MK and Buckinghamshire Business Awards, recognised for our outstanding initiative, boldness, and imagination in the enterprise. Following this, we went on to win Growth Business of the Year at the Buckinghamshire Business Awards and, most recently, our sports insurance brand – SportsCover Direct – was named Best Specialist Insurance Provider at the Insurance Choice Awards. These accolades are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the whole Starpeak team. Here’s hoping our winning streak continues!

A new look for the new year

In October, Protectivity, our specialist insurance provider for SMEs (from micro-enterprises to medium sized businesses), rolled out its new visual identity. This coincided with a brand-new website launch, to reflect the brand’s next era of growth. The new brand identity better reflects Protectivity’s value position in the market, appealing to our wide-ranging customer base, while maintaining the warm and friendly approach that has existed since we started working with small businesses in 2007. Our office also underwent a transformation last year. Not only did we add artwork showcasing Starpeak’s logo, but also SportsCover Direct and the new Protectivity branding. This move was more than just adding aesthetic visuals; it reminds us of Starpeak’s core values and principles on a daily basis. We firmly believe that a great working environment helps drive productivity and we’re looking forward to delivering more quality work for our customers in 2025.
